Personal Day #3

Every day of this week, I woke up in “full throttle” mode. Some of you may understand what I mean. It is that feeling you get when you pop out of bed already filled with stress and some anxiety about the day ahead. It is all related to the kitchen remodel which is going swimmingly, but good stress is still stress. Being more type-B than type-A, I do not generally live my life feeling like this on a regular basis, but when I reach this point, it is somewhat critical, and I get very frustrated with myself when I cannot get it together over good stress. We have lived through some very dark days, but we are definitely not there right now. This is the good stuff. As I get older, I get better at letting the feelings come and go, but old habits are hard to break.

Here are a few things that I wanted to share with you this week.

1. Running Shoe Centerpiece – This is the adorable centerpiece from my running friends’ wedding last weekend.

Andy and I have a long-standing joke about doing things with “your next wife/husband.” IE: Maybe you can go on a cruise ship vacation with your next wife OR Maybe your next husband won’t have to travel so much for work. Our joke of the weekend changed to, “Maybe at your next wedding.” I told Andy that I thought the centerpiece was so cute, and he answered, “Maybe you can have one at your next wedding.” The secret to our successful marriage might be laughter which we do often, as long as he isn’t traveling for work, of course.

2. The Bedroom – We have not even touched this room yet, but it is perfectly liveable. Sunlight streams in here all day, and it is the most relaxing room in the house. My mom went to Ireland this week, and it reminded me that Andy and I bought a beautiful orange wool blanket in Ireland when we were there in October. Ever practical, I had tucked it away to use after we had painted and decorated our bedroom which incidentally, has not even made it onto the master list yet. Yesterday, I pulled out the blanket and put it on the end of the bed to enjoy now. I need to stop waiting to be done with BHH before I live in it. This is not the first time I have written about this subject. Oh, those old habits…

3. Bloggy Stuff

Upcycled Denim Bunting – Perfect for 4th of July. I am not typically into crafts because they mock me when I don’t finish them. However, this project really caught my eye. If I was going to finish a craft project, this would be it.

All about red salvia in your perennial garden – Salvia is quickly becoming one of my favorite garden flowers here in WNY. It thrives in our humid climate.

Horse carriage bench seat makeover – I honestly did not know where Robin was going with this project when I started reading, but it turned out beautifully.

Frugalwoods Financial Independence and Simple Living – This is hands down my favorite blog about frugal life and financial independence. I have been reading it for about nine months. They’ve just moved to their new home in Vermont, and they are quite generous with pictures of their adorable baby and adopted greyhound dog.

Have a great weekend!

As always I enjoyed today’s post. It’s interesting to learn how you fit living your life around the demands of restoration. Your section about other blogs made we think about one that you might enjoy. It’s relatively new and called, “Gardening With What You Have.” You could access it by just putting the title in the search bar on Facebook, before deciding whether or not to subscribe. I think it might be of interest to you because the blogger lives in a suburb of Rochester and is the paid Director of the Garden Club of Rochester. The blog is about her personal garden and she has a wealth of knowledge on gardening in your climate. FYI, the GCOR is housed in an old, authentic castle in Highland Park, the home of the world famous Lilac collection. Looking forward to your next post!

Thank you, Liz. I always enjoy your comments too. I tried to search for the blog you recommended, but I have not had any luck. Perhaps it has not been picked up by Google yet since it is so new. Do you have a direct link? It definitely sounds like something I would enjoy. I just looked up the castle in Highland Park. Wow! I hope to swing by there one day. It looks fascinating.

Hope you like it! My Dad’s office was once in the castle and after they moved out, the Garden Center moved in. In retirement, my Dad became President of the GCOR. I remember playing in the castle as a little girl and especially liked the dungeons in the backyard-now turned into sunken gardens. It might be worth the trip next Spring to see the Lilac, rhododendron, and azalea collections throughout the park.

Robin, I was happy to do it. The carriage seat looks beautiful. Coincidentally, I’ll be in your neck of the woods mid-week. 🙂

My husband and I have a similar running joke – “that must have been your other wife/husband” 😉

The good stress! Yes! Not to mention the mid-project mess – that’s what gets me. When it’s not finished and it seems like it’ll never be done and the mess is so huge that you wanna throw up your hands and toss the whole room out into the street… Yeah, I know that feeling. But I think it makes the end results that much sweeter.

LOVE the blogs you linked! Especially that carriage bench!

Ha ha, Ame! We’ve occasionally used that joke too. 🙂 Midway through a reno is always the toughest part for me. It’s that point where I’ve gone too far to turn back, but the amount of work left seems like far too much. 🙂

Ah, that horse carriage bench is incredible. Thanks for linking that — Now I have a new blog to check out!

I can totally sympathize with the difficulty of being in the middle of a large project, so I completely understand the feeling of “good stress.” My husband is working on re-wiring all our overhead lights and the amount of dust and mess causes me a lot of anxiety. But I know it will be so worth it in the end to know all our wiring is safe and updated.

I’ve been really enjoying your kitchen posts and can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

Sorry that I am late with a reply. I think you will like her blog.

I am glad that you are getting new wiring. Bad electrical is such a concern with our old houses. Hopefully, by now the dust has settled at the Papered House, and you are enjoying a new light or two.
