You Voted, and the Winner is…

…The Butler’s Pantry by a landslide.

I must start off by saying that Andy and I had a great deal of fun watching this unfold. When I posted the poll, I thought to myself, Please let at least ten people vote so that I won’t be completely humiliated. Good news! I am not completely humiliated. You came through for us, and we got some legitimate data from that poll. In January, I will roll up my sleeves and get to work on the Butler’s Pantry. Now that the votes have been tallied, I am looking forward to this project. I have a few more details in place that I will share today.

Wall Idea

We have a ton of leftover tile from the kitchen, and my first thought was to use it in the Butler’s Pantry behind the sink.

However, after I gave it some more thought, I decided that since the Butler’s Pantry walls are original plaster, adding tile would alter the room too much. When we renovate rooms in BHH, we try to keep in mind that someone might want to restore this house completely some day. Our goal is to leave all of the original elements intact as much as possible.

I still liked the idea of an accent wall behind that sink and a peek of something interesting from the dining room.

My plan for the upstairs hall included possibly stenciling the upper wall and ceiling, so I transferred that idea to the Butler’s Pantry.

I am not sure if all of you are familiar with Jenna Sue’s blog, but it is a fantastic and endless source of inspiration. She just did a stencil tutorial this week. It was perfect timing.

After doing a Google search, I found some stencils that I like, and I have narrowed it down to four.

Wall Stencils

Coincidentally, the first one I found is the same pattern as the tile on our kitchen wall. I will certainly keep it in mind.

Endless Circles Lattice Moroccan Stencil – $44.95 (Royal Design Studios)

The frontrunner is this beautiful Japanese Peony Stencil. These colors are perfect too.
Japanese Peony Stencil  – $44.95 (Cutting Edge Stencils)

I am also considering these two designs:

Parlor Lace Stencil –  $89.95 (Royal Design Studio)

French Floral Damask –  $64.95 (Royal Design Studio)

There are many more details to sort out, but it will all fall into place as the renovation is happening. As I have mentioned before, I am much better at creating a plan as I go rather than planning everything out first. Rest assured; I’ll keep you posted as the project develops.

Thank you again for participating in the voting fun. It was so enjoyable that we may do it again another time.

PS: Not to be the bearer of a bad reality check, but our shopping/shipping days before the holidays are numbered. ICYMI, last week, we posted a gift guide of our kids’ top ten tried and true toys. If you are still stumped about what to buy for the kids in your life, the post might spark some ideas.

I am not exactly the floral type, but I think the Peony’s would look fantastic. They would really look great as seen through the doorway from the dining room.

Thank you, Devyn. Oddly, I’m not exactly the floral type either. 😀 I hope that in this small space, it will add a touch of fun vs. adding a touch of old lady. LOL

Oh, that sink! I am verdigris with envy! Countertop looks like another candidate for Waterlox.

We just stenciled our living room frieze area with a William Morris willow leaf design. The process was only moderately tedious, and we are delighted with the result.

Thank you, Andrea. I am so glad to have your input about stenciling too. I am pleased to hear that your experience was good and that you are happy with the outcome. It makes me feel like I am on the right track.

How fun! I will be interested to see what you do. You just gave me the idea to use a stencil in my tv nook. My house was built in the 90’s and everyone in my neighborhood has these old nooks for the tv, lol. Might look cool with a stencil. I have a mid century mod bookcase in it so I will look for those types of patterns.
